Kelly, Mae Ella Calico KILGORE -- Services for Mae Ella Calico Kelly, of Longview, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Parkview Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.C. Watkins and the Rev. Larry Washington officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Garden. Arrangements are under the direction of Cunningham Funeral Home. Mrs. Mae Ella Calico Kelly was born July 20, 1920, in Smith County, to the parentage of Allie Calico and Meele Elder. She attended Dunbar schools of Smith County. She united with County Line Church of the Living God at an early age. Mrs. Kelly moved her membership to Growing Valley Baptist Church. She later on moved her membership to Parkview Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful, loyal, dedicated member until her health began to fail her. She worked on the usher board and hospitality committee for more than 41 years. Mrs. Kelly was the usher board president for several years. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho St. Luke Court No. 361 for more than 41 years. She worked for Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Johnston for more than 47 years, until she retired. While working for the Johnstons, she helped raise three children, Gayle Johnston Parker, Blanche Johnston Bruyere and Decie Johnston Brookshire. She also cared for and raised five of their children, which are known as her grandchildren, Stewart, Laura, Amy, Clint and Garnett. Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters; 10 brothers; and one special sister, Armie Dean Calico. She also leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Mary Lee Allen of Winona; and four special friends, Ivena Hayes, Billy Bush, Doris Dixon and Duffle Bag, all of Longview. She has some very special nieces and nephews who cared for her the past six years when her health began to fail. These people stood beside her until she departed this life on March 2, 2007: Mary Calico and L.A. Jones, Sherrion Calico and Raymond Fuller, Robert and Ramona Calico and James and Sandra Calico; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
