Kennedy, Sherman Charles GLADEWATER - Services for Sherman Charles Kennedy, 72, of Gladewater, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ellis Hayden, the Rev. Weldon Jones and Larry W. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park. Born July 8, 1935, in Healdton, Oklahoma, he died Friday, October 26, 2007, in Austin. A 1953 honor graduate of Gladewater High School, he graduated with honors from Kilgore College in 1955, and in 1964, was an honor graduate of the University of Texas School of Pharmacy. He was a member of the Army National Guard. On July 5, 1958, in Gladewater, Texas, he married Madelyn Holloway. In June 1964, he became a pharmacist and later co-owner of Jobe Drug Company in Gladewater. The business closed in April 2007, at which time he retired. He was a member of the East Texas Pharmaceutical Association, Gladewater Roundup Rodeo Association, Gladewater Chamber of Commerce and a frequent visitor of the Gladewater Lion's Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served as a member of the board of directors. He especially enjoyed serving as kitchen helper for Wednesday night suppers. An avid golfer and hunter, he enjoyed all sports, especially Texas Longhorn sports. Each year he attended the boys UIL State Basketball tournament. He is survived by his wife, Madelyn Kennedy of Gladewater; daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Brian McAtee of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Danielle McAtee of Oklahoma City; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Martha Kennedy of East Mountain; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Lee Downing of Kilgore; sister-in-law, Barbara Kennedy of Gladewater; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Coleman and Ora Kennedy; two brothers, Floyd Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy; and two sisters, Oretha Hyden and Luvena Thompson. Pallbearers will be members of the Harold Keller Sunday school class at First Baptist Church. If so desired, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1444, Gladewater, TX 75647; or to the Gladewater Roundup Rodeo Association, P.O. Box 566, Gladewater, TX 75647.
