Lopera, Steven KILGORE -- Graveside services for Steven Lopera, U.S.A.F., master sergeant, retired, 88, of Kilgore, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at the Danville Cemetery, with the Reverend Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Mr. Lopera died Saturday, January 13, 2007, in Tyler, Texas. Mr. Lopera was born November 5, 1918, in Anaheim, California, to Isaac and Lillie Lopera, who preceded him in death. Mr. Lopera was retired from the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of master sergeant. Mr. Lopera served during World War II and Korea and was also based in Columbus, Ga., Washington D.C., and Buenos Aires, Argentina. After separation from the Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Ariz., the Loperas moved to Kilgore in 1989. Mr. Lopera enjoyed traveling, fellowship with friends, and playing and teaching tennis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha "Teenie" Barnett Lopera. His sister-in-law, Claire Laird in Kilgore; as well as several cousins and numerous loving friends, survive Mr. Lopera.
