Minor, Raymond E. Services for Raymond E. Minor, 79, of Longview, will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, at Mobberly Baptist Church, with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Minor passed away Tuesday evening, May 2, 2006, at his home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, May 4, 2006, at the funeral home. Raymond was born July 13, 1926, in Henderson, Texas, to Ralph and Zelma Minor. After high school, he proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II from 1944-1946, when he was a member of the 8th Army 1st Calvary Division. After the war ended, Mr. Minor served in Japan with the occupation forces for one year. He returned to Longview in 1947, and after working at LeTourneau for a short time, he went to work for Southwestern Bell. After 34 years with Southwestern Bell, Mr. Minor retired on his 55th birthday in 1981. Raymond, along with his wife of 58 years, Virginia, was a long-time member of Mobberly Baptist Church and the Primetime Sunday School Class. He was also a devoted member of the Pythian Lodge and the Cherry Springs Hunting Club. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James and Ralph Minor. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Terry Shumate; granddaughter, Stephanie Jeffrey and her husband, Randall; two great-grandchildren, Preston and Brittany; sisters and brother-in-law, Darlene and Alvin Pliler, and Joyce Carroll; and brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Claudell Minor.
