Monroe, Autrey KILGORE -- Services for Autrey Monroe, 89, of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2006, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend David Hampton and the Reverend Dr. William J. Ingersoll officiating. Burial will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mr. Monroe died Sunday, April 23, 2006, in Longview, Texas. He was born March 31, 1917, in Savoy, Texas. Mr. Monroe graduated from Savoy High School. He moved to Kilgore in 1937 to drive a city bus. Mr. Monroe was drafted in 1941 to serve our country during World War II as a drill sergeant in the U.S. Army. He trained infantrymen until his discharge in December 1945. Mr. Monroe went to work for Shell Oil Company in Sheridan, Texas, before being transferred to Kilgore in 1951. After his retirement in 1982, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, and especially his grandsons. He loved his church and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Monroe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anita Monroe of Kilgore; two daughters, Rita Knox of Dallas, and Janie Terrell and her husband, Bill, of Kilgore; a sister, Barbara Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona; four grandsons, Jeff Knox of Dallas, Chris Knox of Dallas, William Terrell of Austin, and Andrew Terrell of Kilgore; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 25, 2006, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
