Morris, Thomas Edward MOUNT PLEASANT -- Thomas Edward "Eddie" Morris, 62, passed away on December 11, 2006, at his home in Longview, Texas. He lost his battle with cancer with his family and friends at his side. Mr. Morris was born September 25, 1944, in Columbia, Tennessee. He was about one year old when his family moved to Texas, where he was raised. Most people who knew Mr. Morris would agree he was one of the most honest, most stubborn, and most opinionated men they had ever met. But, they would also agree he loved his family with all his heart and soul, and was one of the best men you would ever meet. His wife was everything to him; his love, his best friend, his confidant, his glory. Where you saw one, you saw the other, from the first thing in the morning when they shared their first Dr. Pepper, until they went to bed at night. He was so proud of his children, Kim and Steve. Steve was always able to make him laugh, and they loved to watch football together. Kim was always "his baby girl," and the two of them spent many nights just sitting and chatting. Kim and Steve have always laughed about how they could always talk openly to "Steady Eddie." More than 33 years ago when his wife's sister passed away and left four daughters, he freely opened his heart, his arms, and his home. He was always there for them as if they were his own children. He and his wife affectionately came to be known to all as "Aunt Claudia and Uncle Eddie" by all who knew him because of their four "extra children." They often laughed that others would never know them by their real names. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Morris; his mother, Estelle Morris; and his sister, Mary Lee Oliver. Mr. Morris is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Claudia Inez Morris; their daughter, Kim Ivey; and their son, Stephen "Cuz" Morris, all of Longview. Mr. Morris also leaves behind four nieces, Karen Martin, Karla Hammons, Kitty Minor, and her husband, Billy, and Kleva George; and all their children and grandchildren. He also leaves behind one brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Bobbie Morris of Sealy, Texas; a sister, Deborah Crawford; niece, Melissa Horton of Mount Pleasant; nephew, Phillip Wayne Morris of Azel, Texas; niece, Eva Joanne Morris of Slaton, Texas; and nephews, Kevin and Randy Goad of Austin, Texas. Also left behind is his uncle, Virgil Thornsberry and his wife, Peggy, of Plano, Texas; his aunt, Jewel Branson and her husband, Hollis, of Sherman, Texas; and his aunt, Ruby Mathis of Washington. Graveside services will be held at Nevills Chapel in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Services will be conducted by family and friends as they feel compelled to share their experiences with "Uncle Eddie." In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Texas Home Health Hospice, 3220 N. Fourth St., Ste. 101, Longview, TX 75605-5143.
