Mason, Patricia Dec. 26, 1947 - Mar. 22, 2007 "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." ~ Psalm 30:5 KILGORE - Patricia Mason lost her long, courageous battle with cancer and found joy in her heavenly home as the morning began at Hospice Home Place on Thursday, March 22, 2007. During her life, as well as in her illness and death, Patricia touched so many. She exemplified a Christian life, a positive attitude, and the beauty of a simple smile. Patricia chose a career as an educator and completed her education at Stephen F. Austin State University. She taught in several East Texas school districts before completing her teaching years at Maude Laird Middle School in Kilgore. A large family is left behind to praise her memory. Her daughter and son- in-law, Jef and Melanie Spiva of Stephens City, Virginia, gave her the three grandchildren she so loved: Brendan, Megan and Ryan. Her son, Timothy Mason, shared her home with her in Kilgore. A sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Joe Poindexter live in Independence, Missouri. Brothers and sisters-in-law include Eddie and Linda Shawn, Liberty City; Don and Pat Shawn, Bucklin, Missouri; Richard and Becky Shawn, Tyler, Texas; and Jack Shawn and fiancée, Vicki Miller, Burnsville, Minnesota. Her sister-in-law, Robbie Shawn Sumpter, lives in Phoenix, Arizona. An extended family of numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins are scattered throughout the country. Family members who preceded Patricia in death include her father, D.A. Shawn Jr.; her stepfather, J.C. Williams; her mother, Lorene Shawn Williams; her brother, Charles Shawn; and her former husband, Doyle Mason. Patricia's church family at Liberty City Assembly of God was so precious to her and provided such comfort and support to her as well as to her entire family. Angela Alexander, a young neighbor and friend, became Patricia's trusted companion during the last months of her life. Services for Patricia have been entrusted to Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore and to Brother James Shepherd of Liberty City Assembly of God. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2007, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, March 26, 2007, at Liberty City Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum in Longview. Pallbearers will be Glenn Cherry, Steve Pace, Shannon Wilks, Ray Jackson, Tony Addie, Eric Davis, Keith Sjogren and Merl Muse.
