Matthews, Leslie Funeral services for Leslie Matthews, 82, of Kilgore, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, May 31, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore, with the Reverend Dr. William J. Ingersoll and the Reverend Roberta Ingersoll officiating. Burial will follow in Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Matthews passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in Kilgore. He was born May 30, 1924, in Hubbard, the son of Henry and Willie Matthews, who preceded him in death. Mr. Matthews served in the United States Army, fighting in the European Theater during World War II. He served as superintendent of several school districts, including Coolidge, Vidor, and Dickinson. He later moved to Kilgore, where he served as dean of occupational education at Kilgore College until his retirement. Mr. Matthews was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kilgore, and he was a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chester Matthews; and sister, Jo Gillam. Leslie Matthews is survived by his wife, Judy Matthews of Kilgore; daughters, Leslie Ann Williamson and husband, Joe of Vidor and Lori Matthews of Austin; six grandchildren, Angela Dyer, Dr. Matthew Williamson, Trina Walters, Deanna Girard, Lori Leavitt and Jordan Matthews; and several nieces and nephews.
