Owles, Barbara Joanne Funeral services for Barbara Joanne Owles, 79, of Longview, Texas, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road. Interment will follow in Summerfield Cemetery on Tryon Road. Mrs. Owles passed into her heavenly home Saturday, February 4, 2006, at a local nursing home after an extended illness. Officiating the services will be the Reverend Bud Miller, Pastor of Summerfield United Methodist Church, and the Reverend David Reeder, Chaplain of Greater Hospice of Texas. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. this evening, February 7, 2006, in the Rader Chapel. Joanne was born September 11, 1926, in Provencal, Louisiana, of parents, Norma and Andrew Burden. She graduated from high school there, establishing many lifelong friendships. During World War II, she worked as a telephone operator in Shreveport, Louisiana. Joanne and Harry were united in marriage in January of 1946, and made their first home in Longview. In addition to her roles of devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Joanne was employed by Sears as a sales clerk in the infant wear department for 15 years and retired from the City of Longview after 16 years, serving as a municipal court clerk. She also served as cub scout den mother, PTA member, church choir member, and countless other roles in raising her family, and enjoyed being a member of the Longview Chapter of Sweet Adolines. Harry and Joanne were members of Wesley Methodist Church for many years before joining the church family at Summerfield UMC, where they have worshiped since 1971. Joanne was preceded in death by her mother, Norma, and step-fathers, George Williams and Richard Crowley; and her brother, Voigt Williams. Survivors include her husband, H.F. "Harry" Owles Sr. Longview; sons, Roger Owles of Longmont, Colorado; H.F. "Buddy" Owles Jr. and wife Ann, of Longview; four grandsons, Eric Owles and wife Diana of New York City, Ray Owles and wife LaDona of Houston, Greg Owles and wife Katie of Tucson, Arizona, and Jeff Owles and wife Melissa of College Station; three step-granddaughters, Lynn Ojeda and husband Homero of Plano, Liz Ronning and husband John of White Oak, and Rebecca Howell and husband Lonnie of Hallsville; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and large extended family, including special friends, Jack and Mary Cambridge, Sue West, and special school friend, Olgia V. Hines of Glendale, Arizona. Joanne and her family were blessed by the love and care of the staffs of Whispering Pines Nursing Home and Greater Hospice of Texas, and the prayers, encouragement, and love of their church family at Summerfield UMC.
