Orr and Pastor Jeff Langley officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery, under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. The Reverend Ozment was the first born of five children to Penny and Thomas Ozment. He was born July 17, 1912, in rural Arkansas, near Snyder. He received his early education in country school houses and his first profession was farming. He, and his siblings, worked to support their family during their young years. The Reverend Ozment passed away on July 7, 2007, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, after a short illness. He was in the presence of his daughter and son-in-law and two close friends at the time of his passing. He would have been 95 years old just 10 days later. The Reverend Ozment surrendered to the call to ministry in 1942 and moved his family from Arkansas to Marshall, where he received his B.S. degree from East Texas Baptist College. For the next 40 plus years, he served churches in and around East Texas. He first pastored Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Omaha, then Friendship Baptist Church in Marshall, Gladewater Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, Trinity Baptist Church in Longview (for 14 years), and Forest Hill Baptist Church in Longview. The Reverend Ozment was an avid deer hunter for most of his life and enjoyed running rabbits with his beagle hounds. He participated in field trials for his dogs and had many friends in his Beagle Club at Lake of the Pines. He took great joy in sharing pups with friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing, when time permitted. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Jewel Dingler Ozment; his brother, Roy Vester Ozment; his sister, Mrs. Ruby Rambo; his grandson, Russel Carlton Langley; and his nephew, Dennis Roy Ozment. Surviving the Reverend Ozment in death are his daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Rita Langley of Santiago, Dominican Republic; two sisters, Pauline Taylor of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Gertrude McGarr of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren, Pastor Jeff Langley of San Diego, Calif., and Cyndy Crider of Castaic, Calif. He took enormous pride and joy in his five great-grandchildren, Hannah Jewel Crider, Alexandra Claire Langley, Noah Dane Crider, Jackson Dean Langley and Clara Lane Crider. He leaves two very special friends, Mari Garo and Jesus Maria Tavares of Santiago and Lecumbre, Dominican Republic. He is survived by three neph- ews, Bob McGarr of Texarkana, Joe Rambo of Monticello, Ark., and AnDrew Taylor of Pine Bluff, Ark. He is survived by three nieces, Carole Nicholson of Baltimore, Md., Linda Rambo of Avalon Estates, Ga., and Wanda Lloyd of Dierks, Ark. After retiring from the ministry, the Reverend Ozment relocated to the Dominican Republic, where he could be with his daughter and son-in-law. He had many new experiences but especially enjoyed meeting and getting to know missionary families, including Southern Baptists working there. He enjoyed learning about and eating new types of fruits and vegetables and took delight in the beautiful flowers and flowering trees on the island. He loved the poinsettias which grow over the mountain sides. During his early years in the Dominican Republic, he enjoyed watching the sunrise each morning while sitting out on his balcony with his first cup of coffee. He was well loved, and his presence will be missed by his family and numerous friends. We rest in the blessed assurance that he is with his Father in heaven . The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. this afternoon, July 15, 2007, at the funeral home, 4619 Judson Road.
