Phillips, Willie Tom Former long-time Longview resident, Mrs. Willie Tom Phillips, passed away May 2, 2006, in San Antonio, Texas. She lived in Longview from 1936-1994, and was a legal secretary in the oil and gas industry. Mrs. Phillips was born December 22, 1911, in Athens, Texas, to Ed and Luella Gaines. She graduated from Athens High School and Barnes Business College in Tyler, Texas. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Longview for many years and was a member of the Civic Music Association, the Business and Professional Women's Club, Zonta Club, and several other civic and cultural organizations. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Brian Phillips. She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Sarah Huffman and son-in-law, William R. Huffman, of Harper, Texas; granddaughter, Catherine Milligan and husband, Scott, of Leesburg, Georgia; brother, R.W. Gaines of Roseville, California; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, at Memory Park Cemetery, with the Reverend Thomas Ayres officiating.
