Phelps, Ray Edward YELLVILLE, Ark. - Ray Edward Phelps, formerly of Yellville, Arkansas, was born December 17, 1921, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Henrietta Axilena Printz Phelps and Rubie Goodwin Phelps. He passed from this life on July 12, 2007, in Longview. After growing up in Omaha, Nebraska, Ray attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, with the desire to serve in the ministerial service as the Lord directed. On June 10, 1945, Ray married his Omaha, Nebraska sweetheart, Donna Williamson. To this union were added three children: son, Lowell Edward; son, Douglas Alan; and daughter, Kathleen Susan. Together, with their family in tow, they started their life of ministering to Christian church congregations in Carlock, Illinois, Kewanee, Illinois, Omaha, Nebraska, and Blair, Nebraska. Ray was extremely pleased of the involvement that he had in the establishing of the Wildewood Christian Church in Ralston, Nebraska. In 1976, guided by a commitment to their responsibility to care for Donna's parents, Ray and Donna moved to Flippin, Arkansas, where Ray took the position of minister of the Flippin Christian Church, allowing Donna to assist her loving parents, John H. Williamson and Elmont Williamson. At retirement, Ray and Donna moved to Yellville, Arkansas, and enjoyed their retirement years, enjoying the Arkansas life for a total of 28 years. In 2004, after a marriage of more than 59 years, Donna passed away, and Ray moved from Yellville, Arkansas to Longview, Texas to be closer to his daughter, Kathy, and her family. Ray enjoyed being around his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren, especially when they could all played with the model train sets out in the garage. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his son Douglas, his parents, Rubie and Henrietta; and an only brother, Richard. Ray is survived by his son, Lowell and his wife, Debbie; daughter, Kathy Moore and her husband, Craig; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, July 17, 2007, the Main Street Church of Christ in Yellville, Arkansas. Interment will be in the Layton Cemetery of Yellville, Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Longview Christian Church, 2400 McCann Rd., Longview, TX 75605.
