Riley Sr., Leonard E. Leonard E. Riley Sr. Services for Leonard Elmer Riley Sr., of Longview, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2007, at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel, 4619 Judson Road, with Leonard E. Riley Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Leonard E. Riley Sr. was born December 30, 1920, in Highfill, Arkansas. With the onset of the Great Depression, he moved to Texas where he learned some basic truths; be fair, be honest and hard work. As the U.S. fought in World War II, he proudly volunteered and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. While stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, his first child, Sharon, was born, and after his honorable discharge, he moved to Longview, where Nalora and Leonard Jr. were born. In 1950, Mr. Riley founded Riley's Collision Repair, becoming a part of the entrepreneurial community. He continued to work for the betterment of the East Texas area by joining the Longview Chamber of Commerce. After 49 years of delightful service to the good people of Longview, the business was sold to Greg Pyle and is successfully carrying on the legacy as Autobody Express. Mr. Riley graduated first in his class from the Dale Carnegie personal development course. Some of his other accomplishments came when he was a member of the Elks Lodge, Jaycees and the Rotary Club. He was an avid supporter of the Longview Lobos, even long after his children and grandchildren had graduated from Longview High School. Mr. Riley had a deep faith in God and was a man of prayer. In his younger years, he was very active at Mobberly Church of Christ and was once active in the Gideon Bible Association. Later in life, he moved his membership to Alpine Church of Christ, where he attended until his death. He enjoyed helping people and donating his time to various charities. Mr. Riley's faith in Christ sustained him through many years of heart disease. He never let his illness get him down and always bounced back with grace to fulfill the task the Lord put before him. He was a man of great integrity and compassion, and he will be missed dearly by all who loved him. Mr. Riley went to be with the Lord at age 86 on August 2, 2007. He was preceded and greeted by his parents, Henry O. and Nora Ennis Riley; his five brothers; three sisters; many loving family members, including an infant daughter; a son, and many special friends.
