Roberts, James "Ray" Services for James "Ray" Roberts, 85, of Longview, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel, 4619 Judson Road, with the Rev. Harlan Hall and the Rev. Dewayne Beaty officiating. Entombment will be in Lakeview Mausoleum. Mr. Roberts went to be with his Lord Thursday, June 21, 2007, after a long struggle with diabetes. Mr. Roberts was born March 9, 1922, in New Hope, to Arthur and Dorothy L. Pinson Roberts. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Longview and the Talent Sunday School Class. Mr. Roberts was retired from Southwestern Bell in management after 34 years. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany. Mr. Roberts was a member of Longview Masonic Lodge No. 404 since 1948. He was a devoted family man, loving father, caring and fun grandfather. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Ray and Louise Roberts of Garland; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Barney Rowe of Longview; stepson and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Margaret Roberts of Cathedral City, California; brother and sister-in-law, Carl Joe and Geneva Dyess of Mineola; sister, Willie Mae Cunningham of Plano; brother, Marcus Dyess of Dallas; sister, Dottie Frances Baird of Dallas; aunt and uncle, Laura and Jimmy Jerden of Longview; three grandchildren, John Sills, Russell Roberts and Abby Bryant; two step grandchildren, Stacy and Kelly; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 11537, Alexandria, VA 22312.
