Roundtree, Robert Henry Robert Henry Roundtree passed away February 2, 2007, doing the job he loved so well, serving the Longview community as a newspaper carrier. Mr. Roundtree worked for the Longview News-Journal for more than 30 years, along with his wife, Doris Roundtree. Mr. Roundtree was born March 27, 1929, in New Rochelle, New York,, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward William Roundtree. He attended public school and graduated form New Rochelle High School in 1945 at the age of 16. In 1950, he traveled to Longview, Texas, to perform missionary work as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He met his wife, Doris Reed, and they were married in 1951. Robert was a devoted husband and father. He loved working in his garden and traveling with his family. His greatest hobby was working crossword puzzles. He loved to read his Bible daily and have a discussion with his loving son each morning, ending with a prayer for the day. He also enjoyed history. He was warm, kind and caring to everyone he met. He enjoyed being with his family, who loved him dearly. He was called "Papa" by all his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Nancy Roundtree; a sister, Betty; and a brother, Charlie Claes. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Roundtree; two sons, David and Jonathan Roundtree; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services for Robert H. Roundtree will be held at 1 p.m. today, February 9, 2007, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Alpine Road in Longview, Texas.
