Short, James Porter Services for James Porter Short, 78, of Longview, will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Lakeview Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Ciomperlic officiating. Mr. Short passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in Longview. Mr. Short was born February 11, 1928, in Covington, Tenn., to Ora and Martin Short. He was a graduate of Wylie High School and Southern Methodist University. Mr. Short was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the South Pacific during World War II and the Korean War. He was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Nevada, Texas and a current member of the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge, Sharon Temple, Scottish Rite, and the Knights of Pythian Lodge. Mr. Short was a retired Longview business owner in the freight and oil business as well as a land developer. He was preceded in death by his son, Garry Short. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Short; children, Cindy Kelley and her husband, Larry of Garland, and Larry Short and his wife, Mary of Longyiew; grandchildren, Karen Kelley, Kevin Kelley, James Paul Short, Amy Fagan, and Victoria Awbrey and her husband, Michael; sisters, Pauline Putman of Marshall, Ruth Putman of Longview, and Marie Edwards of Garland; and brothers, Glenn Short and wife, Lometa of Allentown, Pa., and Winfred Short and wife, Alice of Pauley's Island, S.C. Pallbearers will be Kevin Kelley, James Paul Short, Michael Awbrey, Kenneth Short, Roger Short, and Donald Short. Honorary pallbearer will be James Webb. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Shreveport, La. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, June 30, 2006, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview.
