Struthers, Martha Louise Incredibly intelligent and strong-willed, Martha Louise Struthers left this chapter of her existence and moved to the next on August 1, 2006. She was born Martha Louise McBrayer on June 9, 1927, in Marshall. An avid reader, she loved to educate herself about new things. Martha wrote both prose and poetry, chiefly for herself, and was very gifted in doing so. She was a stubbornly private person, yet she was not one to shirk from letting another know her opinion about any subject. To say Martha was deft and direct when speaking would be an understatement. Martha completed her education at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, where she met her husband, Dr. John Edmund Struthers Jr. In Denver, Colorado, she raised her family and lived for 30 years, before returning to Texas to live the remainder of her life in Longview. She was preceded in death by her sons, Mark Cameron Struthers and Grant Clayton Struthers. Martha is survived by her brother, Jack McBrayer; son, John Edmund Struthers III; daughter, Martha Brooke Struthers; grandchildren, Jeremy Struthers and Jennifer Struthers; nieces, Kim McBrayer Alston, Janet Struthers, and Lynn Struthers; and nephew, James Struthers Jr. Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2006, at Welch Funeral Home, located at 4619 Judson Road, in Longview. The family will receive friends 4 p.m. today, August 6, 2006. An online registry may be signed at www.news-journal.com, by clicking on the obituaries link.
