Salter Jr., James M. "Jim" Services for James M. "Jim" Salter Jr., 80, of White Oak, will be at 2 p.m. today, September 4, 2007, at East Mountain Church of Christ, with James Winniford officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Salter went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 2, 2007. Jim was born February 4, 1927, in Upshur County, to James M. and Georgia Ethel Salter. Mr. Salter was in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II, from 1944-1946. He married Ethelyn "Lynn" Grace Wood of Gladewater on July 16, 1948, and they lived happily together for 59 years. They are members of East Mountain Church of Christ. Mr. Salter worked for Cities Service and retired in 1982. Mr. Salter was loved and respected by everyone who knew him, and he loved his family dearly. If he could have had his way, all of his family would have lived right next door to him where he could watch over them. Now, he will be watching over them from heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Allen Salter and Melvin Leon Salter; and one sister, Thelma Jane McCormick. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Brenda Salter of Houston, Malcolm Carroll and Pam Salter of White Oak, and Bobby Joe and Lisa Salter of White Oak; sister-in-law, Nell Salter of East Mountain; seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren who will miss their "PawPaw" dearly; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22032. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. - noon today at the funeral home. A memorial guestbook may be signed at www.raderfh.com. Published in the Longview News-Journal on 9/4/2007.
