per Radar FH John W. Sundby Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Aug. 1, 1927 Departed on May 10, 2002 and resided in Longview, TX. Visitation: Private John William Sundby, 74, of Longview, passed away at his home Friday, May 31, 2002, in Longview, Texas at the age of 74 and after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be 12 noon Monday, at Memory Park Cemetery with Dr. W. D. O'Neal officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. He was born August 20, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN and moved to Longview from El Dorado, Arkansas in 1932 with his family. Mr. Sundby returned home to Longview in 1987 after retiring from Exxon. He graduated from Longview High School in 1945 and attended Kilgore Jr. College and later, Tyler Jr. College. He went to work for Humble Oil Co. which later became Exxon and retired from there after years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II. On October 14, 1950, he married Jonnie M. Cabbiness and they celebrated almost 52 years of happy marriage. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a devoted husband and father. Mr. Sundby was also an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Sundby was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy M. Sundby and his four and a half year old son, John W. Sundby, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jonnie; son and daughter-in-law , Dr. Stephen M. Sundby and wife Karen of Juneau, Alaska; son, Brian M. Sundby of Dallas, Texas; sister, June Rogers of Longview; brother-in-law, Milton Cabbiness, Sr. of Longview; sisters-in-law, Patsy Cabbiness of Longview and Louise Smith of San Benito, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Milton Cabbiness, Jr., Ralph Horridge, Joe Howard, Benny Ralph Cabbiness, Billy Ray Cabbiness, Mark Meyer, Bruce Wayne Cabbiness and Milton Cabbiness.
