Tate, Roy Mitchell Longview resident, Roy Mitchell Tate, 79, died at his home May 9, 2006, after losing a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 2, 1926, in DeLeon, Texas, Mr. Tate was a decorated World War II, U.S. Navy veteran. He spent his 35-year career in law enforcement with the Fort Worth and Henderson police departments. He retired with the FWPD as captain and received numerous awards including being named Fort Worth's "Officer of the Year." He came out of retirement to serve another five years in East Texas with the detective division of the Henderson Police Department. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Judith Ann Tate; his sons, Robert Edward Boaz and Richard Michael Boaz; his sister-in-law, Karen Gail Scarberry and her daughter, Katherine Ann Rudd; grandson, Richard Michael Boaz Jr.; great-granddaughter, Madison Renee Boaz; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Tate was preceded in death by two sisters, June Davis of Longview, and Betty Manning of DeLeon, Texas. Mr. Tate's special friends include Bill and Diane Reinart, Renee Cunningham, Melba Butler, Evelyn Sledge and care giver, Barbara Johnston, Tommy Modisette, and a host of others too numerous to list.
