Uffelman, Betty Irene A memorial service for Betty Irene Uffelman, 77, of Longview, Texas, will be Monday, May 14, 2007, at 2p.m., in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Roberson officiating. Mrs. Uffelman died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at a local hospital, after a short illness. Mrs. Uffelman was born August 20, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to James Joseph and Burdella Irene Martin Bailey. She graduated from West View High School in 1947 and, in 1950, earned an associates degree in business from Burroughs Business School in Pittsburgh. She began her career as an auditor for Sears Roebuck and Company. She was united in marriage to Glenn William Uffelman on June 1, 1956, at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They settled in Baldwin Borough, Pennsylvania, and raised five daughters. The family moved to Longview in June 1975. Mrs. Uffelman, known to many as Miss Betty, retired from Winn-Dixie Stores in 1989, where she managed the bakery/deli at the Eastman Road and High Street stores in Longview. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William. Besides her husband of 50 years, Glenn, survivors include her five children, Debbie and Mike Maday of Fort Worth, Texas, Becky and David Thornton of Bedford, Texas, Nancy and Greg Carpenter of Burleson, Texas, Kimberly Uffelman of Fort Worth, Texas, and Pam and Tim Brown of Arlington, Texas; one grandchild, Amanda Maday, currently attending Texas Tech University; brother James Bailey of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Henry Uffelman of Eighty-Four, Pennsylvania; one niece; three nephews; two grandnieces; one grandnephew; and many dear friends in Texas and Pennsylvania.
