White, A. B. "Doc" KILGORE -- Services for A.B. "Doc" White, 98, of Kilgore, will be 10 a.m. Friday morning, November 3, 2006, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend Eddie Hilburn and the Reverend David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mineola Cemetery. Mr. White went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Mr. White was born October 8, 1908, in Wood County, Texas, near Quitman, graduated from Quitman High School, and attended East Texas State University. Doc worked at banks in both Quitman and Mineola. He was elected county clerk of Wood County in 1942. Mr. White served during World War II in Italy from 1943-1946 in the 232nd Medical Service Battalion. After returning from the war, he worked for Shell Oil Co. in Quitman and Kilgore from 1948-1969, and later for Federal Machine and Supply after retiring from Shell. Doc was an avid golfer and loved watching Kilgore College basketball games. He spent countless hours coaching and attending summer league baseball games. He was a 64-year member of the Mineola Masonic Lodge, an active member of the First Baptist Church, and the Master's Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Ann Gordon White in 1970; brother, Marshall White; and sister, Maggie White Horton. Mr. White is survived by his wife, Phara White of Kilgore; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Lynn White of Houston; three granddaughters, Laura White Gawlik and husband, Coby, Amanda White, and Allison White, all of Houston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund at the First Baptist Church, or to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Shreveport, La.
