Wilgus, Marguerite Marguerite Lindley Singletary Wilgus, 96, of Anacoco, Louisiana, formerly of Longview, died November 6, 2006, at her residence. She was born February 8, 1910, in Blanca, Colorado, to George and Alma Lindley. Marguerite was a teacher of English, French, and Spanish. During her tenure, she was at Overton High School in Overton, Texas, for two years. She spent 15 years at White Oak public schools, and three years at St. Mary's Catholic School in Longview, Texas. Prior to her teaching career, she was employed at Longview Emp. Insurance (U.S.E.S.). Marguerite attained her education at Henrietta, Oklahoma public schools and Colorado Springs High School. She received her certificate from Nancy, France, in 1929, then earned her B.A. degree from Colorado College in 1931. Marguerite also attended The Sorbonne in Paris, France, in 1930, and the University of Hawaii, where she earned a certificate in 1960. To further her education, she went to the Spanish Panamerican University in Saltillo, Mexico. Marguerite was involved in the Meruks of Crescent Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Mensa. Her interests were mostly in foreign languages, countries and travel. She visited most countries in Western Europe, South America, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean Islands. Marguerite was widowed. Her husband, Charles A. Wilgus, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Roger Wilgus of Texarkana Texas, and Richard L. Wilgus of Anacoco, Louisiana; one daughter, Georgene Harkness of Plano, Texas; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Longview. In keeping with Marguerite's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Father Flanagan's Boys Town, 300 Flanagan Blvd., Boystown, NE 68010; or to Covenant House, Sister Mary Rose Director, New Orleans, LA 70153-3128.
