Wilcoxen, Norman Allen 1932 - 2007 NIXON - Norman Allen "Buddy" Wilcoxen, 75, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2007, in Smithville, Texas, with his family at his side He was born February 16, 1932, in Glen Flora, Texas, the son of Arthur John and Ivy Ethelyn Frankum Wilcoxen. He was a retired Baptist minister, and also worked for the Lower Colorado River Authority in La Grange. Buddy graduated from Gladewater High School and attended Baylor University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Texas Lutheran University. He was ordained as a Baptist minister in Tomball, Texas, in 1949. In 1953, he married Nettie Frances Hodge and began a family: daughter, Lucinda "Cindy"; and son, David. In more than 40 years as a country preacher, Brother Buddy made countless friends and spread the gospel to congregations in the Texas towns of Sutherland Springs, Manchaca, San Gabriel, Oak Hill, Victoria, Smiley, and Bastrop. Buddy was known for his quick wit and quick smile, easy uproarious laughter, generous spirit, and the warm, genuine regard he felt for his fellow man. He was also known for his musical gifts: a powerful, resonant singing voice and skillful piano playing. He performed for many churches on special occasions and at revivals. Buddy is survived by his wife, Marion Allen Long Wilcoxen of Bastrop; daughter, Lucinda Sue Wilcoxen of Bastrop; son, David Allen Wilcoxen and his wife, Karen LeFevre of Austin; sister, Ruth Nell Wilks and her husband, Donald Wilks of Gladewater; and brother, Donald Moore Wilcoxen and his wife, Syble Wilcoxen of Ironton, Missouri. His second wife, Jo Ann Smith Turner, died in 1999. The family is thankful for the support and care Buddy received from Towers Nursing Center in Smithville and Aseracare Hospice. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2007, at First Baptist Church, 106 North F.M. 108, Smiley, TX 78159. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Smiley, Texas.
