Wilder, John W. "Jack" Mass of Christian burial for John W. "Jack" Wilder, 85, of Longview ,will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Gavin Vavarek officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Wilder passed away on Tuesday evening, October 2, 2007, at a local hospital. Mr. Wilder was born January 2, 1922, in White River, S.D., to James Edward Wilder and Mary Ellen Coyle Wilder. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D., where he received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. After graduating, Mr. Wilder worked on the Manhattan Project in Oakridge, Tenn. He then went to work for the Eastman Chemical Co., where he worked as a chemical engineer until he retired. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and loved volunteering as an ombudsman at Summer Meadows Nursing Home. He also loved playing Duplicate Bridge and enjoyed his wide circle of friends. Mr. Wilder was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Allen Wilder. Survivors include his wife, Edna Wilder; daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Bruce Smith; son, Mark Wilder; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Don Bailey; stepchildren, Glen Haywood and Linda Bailey; five grandchildren; one brother, William Wilder; and one sister, Therese Wilder Ryan. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday evening, October 5, 2007, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday evening after the rosary.
