Williams Jr., Oleus Oleus Williams Jr., 78, was born September 2, 1929, in Addis, La. He entered eternal rest on October 6, 2007, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2007. Both services will be held at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1327 E. Cotton St., Longview, TX 75602, with Pastor J.H. Creal Sr. officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bigham Mortuary. Oleus attended North Side Elementary School (later Janie Daniel Elementary School), Longview Colored High School (later Mary C. Womack High School), and earned a bachelor's degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Oleus served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, and he was honorably discharged in 1956. He began his career as an educator at David Trade School in Hopkinsville, Ky., and he taught industrial arts at Maggie B. Hudson Junior High School in Longview for many years. He retired from Stroh's Brewery (formerly Schlitz Brewery). Mr. Williams was a member and even served as a trustee of Jerusalem Baptist Church, and he was chairman of the board of trustees of Jerusalem Charitable Trust, until his death. One of the consuming interests in his life was community and economic development. Oleus was the first black real estate broker in Longview. He owned the Oleus Williams Real Estate Building, which housed many businesses, including his realty company and music shop (ROD's). He was co-founder and part owner of Riverside Golf and Country Club, which was one of Texas' first black-owned establishments of its kind. Also, he was co-owner of Associated Ventures of Texas (AVT). As a community and civic leader, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, the City of Longview Planning and Zoning Commission Board and was a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was the son of Angie and Oleus Williams Sr., who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was also preceded in death by his brother, Alfred H. Williams. To cherish his memory are his wife, Delia; daughter, Rossanna and Calvin Portley of Dallas; grandson, Calvin Ray Portley Jr. of Corpus Christi; granddaughter, Delia Celeste Portley of Dallas; godson, Amadeus Darius Jones of Lancaster; and sisters, Genevieve LeBlanc of Dallas, Gloria McGee of Fort Worth and Marilyn and Ampy Jones of Longview.
