This year, Texas Centennial year, we shall pay tribute to our heroes who made Texas history; we will visit, or revisit, noted shrines; we shall assemble, in vast splendor, exhibits of our empire state; thousands of children will sing songs which tell the story of the progress of Texas during the past one hundred years.  To those who won our freedom and built for us the Texas of today, we owe a great debt of gratitude.  We can only repay it by holding high ideals and passing on the great truth that honesty and virtue are the rarest jewels of life.
