With a population of about 80,000, Longview is located about 2 hours east of Dallas, about 1 hour north of Shreveport, LA. and about 30 minutes east of Tyler. Several main transportation highways run through Longview: I 20, Highway 80, and Highway 259.

Longview has an abundance of restaurants and fast food places, ranging from cafeteria style, buffet style, deli style, Cajun, Seafood, Chinese, Steak, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Southwestern, BBQ & of course American.

You have a choice of dozens of motel/hotels. Some out by I-20 and others scattered over town. Longview sports a shopping mall, 3 movie theaters, national chain & independant stores for shopping, two bowling alleys, a skating rink, Kids Station for 12 & under, and numerous clubs for dancing.

Higher education is available with three college & universities: University of Texas at Tyler of Longview, LeTourneau University, and Kilgore College. Special training is available for watch making & repair, Police training and Nurses.

Two major hospitals, Good Shepherd Medical Center & Longview Regional Hospital, and a multitude of doctors, clinics, & specialists keep Longview on the map with excellent health care.

There are a multitude of annual events that might interest you. To name a few: The East Texas Boat & RV Expo, The Freeze Your Fanny bike ride or 10K run, Zonta Anitque Show & Sale, Rotary Rodeo, Party in the Pines Motorcycle Rally, Alley Fest, Premier Balloon Event hot air balloon races, Kennell Club Dog Show, Gregg County Fair, & the Antique Model Train display.

If you are into preforming & visual arts, Longview will not disappoint you. You can choose from the Gregg County Historical Museum, Longview Museum of Fine Arts, ArtView Children's Theatre, Belcher Chapel & Performance Center, Longview Ballet Theatre, East Texas Symphonic Band, Longview Symphony Orchestra, Opera East Texas, & The East Texas Ballroom Dance Assoc.

Whether you are arriving or leaving the Longview area, you can choose from Amtrak or the East Texas Regional Airport. The airport offers service to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport via American Eagle. The airport continues to grow. In 2007 it was designated a foreign trade zone. The airport is known by pilots around the region for its large 10,000 ft. long runway, which purportedly allows it to serve as a backup landing site for U.S. space shuttles. Air Force One has landed there more than once. Amtrak passenger rail service is available on the Texas Eagle through a downtown terminal. Longview's Amtrak rail station is the second busiest in the state of Texas and the fourth busiest station along the Texas Eagle route.

The city's public transit system, Longview Transit, runs daily routes, excluding Sundays and holidays. The fixed routes of Longview Transit provide transportation to key districts throughout the city.
