Woodley Cemetery is located on West Road, Elysian Fields, Harrison County, TX.Go south on Hwy. 31 to Elysian Fields.Turn right on West Road and go approximately 2.8 miles. The cemetery is located on the north side of the intersection with Woodley Road.
Danna also writes, "Research for this family cemetery’s historical marker was done by A.K. Lacy. He is the grandson of Jessie & America Harris Woodley; great-grandson of William Lawrence & Myra Woodley; great-great-grandson of Wingate & Keziah Woodley and great-great-great grandson of William & Telitha Woodley. He has graciously given his permission for this information to be put on-line."According
to family records 'on Aug. 8, 1844, death took 5 year old Harriett Ellen (the
Woodley’s daughter). William Woodley set aside the southeast corner of his property
as a family cemetery, and Harriett Ellen was buried…' William Woodley
was to be the second person buried there in 1847. There is no marker for Harriett
Ellen, but it is assumed that William was buried close to her and his grave
is clearly marked.
"I
have a two-fold reason for my interest in this family cemetery. My grandfather
was John Jeff Woodley; son of Henry Woodley; son of Wingate Woodley; oldest
son of William Woodley. My husband, Robert Robins, is the son of Mary Louise
Westmoreland Robins; daughter of Hall Westmoreland; son of George Alfred Westmoreland;
son of Rev. Joseph Westmoreland and Lucinda Woodley; daughter of William Woodley.His
grandmother, Callie McJimsey Westmoreland was the daughter of Nannie Westmoreland
and Robert McJimsey; son of Caroline Woodley & George Davis McJimsey. It
is kind of confusing, but vastly interesting. If you would like more information
