Ferrier, Ima Rosa West MARSHALL -- Ima Rosa West Ferrier died March 3, 2007, in Marshall, Texas, at the age of 96. Born June 27, 1910, in Sanger, Texas, to a pioneer West Texas family, she was the fourteenth of 16 children. Early in her life, she and her family moved by covered wagon to Dickens County, Texas, and then later to Anton and to Panhandle, Texas, where she graduated from high school. She attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas. In 1930, she married David M. Ferrier of Seymour, Texas, and they were blessed with four children, Rosemary, David Frank, Nina and Douglas. Married for 56 years, David preceded her in death on February 19, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rosemary; her son, David Frank; and grandchildren, Mark, Mary and Glenn Ferrier. With a heartfelt desire to serve others, Rosa was a lifelong advocate for children, church and community. For her long years of volunteer service to the Mesquite Texas ISD, she was honored with a life membership in the Parent Teacher Association. Her love of faith and her church family led to years of volunteerism as a church elder, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the women's organization. Þ ¤ Family was central to her life and was celebrated through large Sunday dinners, bedtime stories, lovingly made quilts and afghans, puppy rescues and rousing games of dominoes and cards. Rosa's "family" expanded over time to include generations of young people from her Sunday school classes who came over for fried chicken and lemon pies and invited her to graduations, weddings and baptisms. She is survived by her daughter, Nina and Joe Perkins of Marshall, Texas; her son, Douglas and Marie Ferrier of Bayview, Texas; daughter-in-law, Elaine Ferrier of Kyle, Texas; grandsons, Matthew Ferrier of Kyle Texas, Gene and Elaine Ferrier of Moreno Valley, California, Thomas Ferrier of Silver Spring, Maryland and Alex and Lesley Perkins of Pearland, Texas; granddaughters, Katie Ferrier of Silver Spring, Maryland and Nina and Paul Fragale of Round Rock, Texas; great-grandchildren, Katie and Matt Reynolds of Spring, Texas, Carissa Ferrier of Austin, Texas, Cory Ferrier of Austin, Texas, John Ferrier of Moreno Valley, California and Paisley Perkins of Pearland, Texas; her last surviving sibling, Winnie Wurst of Bridgeport, Texas; sister-in-law, Bea Ferrier of Seymour, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Riverside Seymour Cemetery in Seymour, Texas. The arrangements are being provided by Downs Funeral Home of Marshall, Texas.
