Henry, Thelma Janice MARSHALL -- Funeral services for Thelma Janice Henry, of Marshall, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Greater Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leon Noeil officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, under the direction of Hayward-Stanmore Funeral Home of Marshall. Mrs. Henry died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at her residence. She was born July 4, 1938, in Longview, to Dennis Richardson and Doris Phillips Richardson. Thelma was a graduate of Weldon High School of Gladewater, and she received her undergraduate degree from Prairie View A&M University. Her graduate degree was earned from East Texas State University in Commerce. Mrs. Henry's teaching career started with Bethlehem Center in Fort Worth, and later in the Jefferson I.S.D., where she retired after 30 years of service. After retirement, she did substitute teaching in the Marshall I.S.D. Mrs. Henry joined Willow Springs Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until she moved to Marshall, where she united with Greater Oak Grove Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Wilma Smith of Jefferson, and Dolores Sewell of Cleveland; one uncle, Frank Phillips of Fort Worth; five nieces, Cahndice Matthews of Jefferson, DeCarla Sewell of Kingwood, Gloria Williams, Evelyn Faye Ingram, both of Longview, and Jewel Colbert of Dallas; three nephews, Dennis Dearion of Tyler, Daniel Sells of Longview, and nephew/godson, Carl Smith of Jefferson; and a host of other relatives.
