William McConnell - August 12, 2003 William Hal McConnell died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in Marshall. He was born March 12, 1943, in Marshall, to Sallie Long McConnell and J.B. McConnell Jr. He graduated from Marshall High School and attended East Texas Baptist University. He married his high school sweetheart Dianne Schnorbus on May 17, 1963. This past May they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Billy was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His four granddaughters were the joy of his life. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Marshall. When his children were young, he enjoyed coaching Little League baseball in Marshall, and later enjoyed watching his granddaughters play softball. He also enjoyed building a playhouse, and other projects for his granddaughters, and working in his yard. After school he went to work at Thiokol and in 1968 joined the Alcoa plant in Marshall. In 1973 the family moved to Palestine with Alcoa. After five years Billy returned to work at the Marshall plant. At the time of his death, he was employed by General Cables, as a systems administrator. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. McConnell Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Long. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marshall with the Rev. William "Rusty" Rustenhaven officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Marshall.
