About Hockley County

Located in northwest Texas, Hockley is just west of Lubbock. It was named after George Washington Hockley, a Texas Revolutionary. The county is approximately 900 square miles in size and about 3,000 feet in elevation. Kike most of that area, it is primarily flat. The economy, historically, has been agricultural and in oil. Hockley was created in 1876, and settled in the early 1900s.
