Recognition of Black Confederate Soldiers Committee


Recently, President General Esther Cope of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) appointed a committee to gather information on black Confederate soldiers, including information on markers and monuments honoring these Confederate heroes.

Each UDC Chapter has been directed to search out and document graves, markers, pensions, military records and other information on these men.

Individuals are asked to collect the following information:

- The names, military records or pensions, if possible.

- Location of grave and type of marker. If possible, include a photograph.

- Photos of monuments to black Confederates, including location, date erected and other dedication information.

- Any other pertinent information.
