The Celeste Killing

That was an unfortunate affair at Celeste on Tuesday, July 2, 1895, in which Eb Mitchell shot and killed Charlie Green. It is said to be the outcome of a sharp business rivalry in which bad feelings had been engendered and a few officious persons carried reports of hard sayings from one to the other until it resulted in a row in which several parties were engaged. There were so many conflicting stories as to the details of the shooting and killing that it is best to not attempt a description. Both men had many friends and the gloom occasioned has been felt in every household in Celeste. Mitchell has not been arrested as he disappeared soon after the shooting.
