(A very personal note on the danger involved in this case: This is one of the sadder things that I have witnessed at Hopewell. The grave is very collapsed. I was very concerned about the earth there caving in further with my weight if I were to try to begin, and knowing I would have to be on my hands and knees to remove the debris that covered it... and knowing that the earth would give under my weight... finally I decided to just jump in and get it. Please, be careful if this is someone in your family, I was not strong enough to place the headstone closer to where it should have been and you are taking a big risk trying to retrieve it. There is a "give" to the earth there. Just a heads-up to anybody who needs to work on this one... make SURE that somebody else is right beside you before you try. (I am sorry for the graphic detail but it is very necessary in this case.)

This is a very smooth marker straight ahead of JOE SMITH DRIVER, possibly turned around to face the tree it is leaning against. Stone is collapsed and may have been moved intentionally, leaning against a tree, illegible - as it standing now).
UNKNOWN
by the fence and turned over due to tree growth (close to Amelia Ely)

closer to the gates, overturned
UNKNOWN
(location between Ben Eldridge and the fence - at front
of cemetery)
NOTE: Base is there, top part with names and dates is gone, looked for it, it was not there.
UNKNOWN
(Note: This grave is beside the grave of Mary McCown and is completely caved in. You can clearly see the outline of the casket below in the concave surface of the earth, an animal has burrowed beneath the marker and it is facing the opposite direction against the edge of the larger hole that makes up the grave. Very sad.)
