Commencement Exercises Set Friday Celeste Grads

Celeste, May 24--Commence exercises will be held Friday evening, May 26, at the Celeste High School auditorium, at which time Dr. C. M. Hyatt, Professor of Bible at East Texas State Teachers College at Commerce, will be the speaker.

Twenty-four members of the Class of '49 of Celeste High School will receive diplomas.

Baccalaureate services were held last Sunday morning in the high school auditorium. The speaker was the Rev. Bill James Bell, pastor to the Field City Baptist Church, Dallas.

Members of this year's class are Billy Frances Bishop, Jim Bradford, Berneal Burns, Clifford Carl Clark, Rachel Glasscock, Kenneth Earl Griffis, Mary Virginia Harris, Rex Hudson, Bobbie Jean Hunter, James David Lacy, Johnnie Lamm, Peggy Jean Lewis, Floyd Eugene Maples Jackie McGahee, Peggy McGahee, James Roland McMichael, Glenda Morgan, Jimmy Don Mulkey, Jimmie Jean Passons, Don Pollard, Edwin Charles West, Harry Charles Wilkerson, and Doris Williams.

Honor graduates at the Celeste High School are Mary Virginia Harris, left, valedictorian; Peggy Jo Leggett, center, salutatorian; and Harry Wilkerson. Miss Harris, who maintained an average grade of 92.71 is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom A. Harris. Miss Leggett is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leggett. She had a 92.67 average. Wilkerson, third high honor student with a 92.43 average, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Worth Wilkerson.
