Stephens Tabernacle Meetings Begin in Greenville Sunday May 12th

Rains County Leader
May 10, 1929 pg. 1

Greenville, May 6th – Everything is now in readiness for the big Tabernacle Revival, which begins in Greenville next Sunday afternoon, May 12th, under the leadership of Evangelist George T. Stephens.

The big tabernacle with a seating capacity of approximately four thousand is located on North Wesley Street, just one block from North Lee. The main entrance to the tabernacle will be on Wesley Street. The speaker’s platform and the choir loft, with accommodations for five hundred singers, is located in the west end of the building. Comfortable benches have been provided for the convenience of all who attend the services. A large augophone has been installed over the speaker’s platform, to make it possible to hear plainly in any part of the huge structure. The floor of the big tabernacle is covered with shavings and sawdust, making the famous “Sawdust Trail” a reality. The building is brilliantly lighted with hundreds of electric lights.

A large annex has been built on the west end of the tabernacle, where special services will be held in connection with the tabernacle meetings. The first meeting in the tabernacle May 12th at 3 o’clock. The 2nd service of campaigning will be Sunday night at 7:30. Evangelist Stephens will preach. The big choir of 500 voices will provide special music at each service.

Arrangements are being made to have special delegations from each of the surrounding towns during the first two weeks of the meeting. Any community or church, wishing special reserved seats for any of the tabernacle services should communicate with W.G. Haymaker, Campaign Director, Box 477, Greenville, or by Telephone No. 358.

A nursery will be provided where mothers can leave babies while they attend the services. This will be a convenience both to the mothers and to those who attend the meetings.

The coming of the Stephens party to Greenville offers one of the greatest opportunities for the people of this section that they have ever had. The cooperating churches of Greenville extend a most hearty welcome to everybody in north Texas to come to Greenville and enjoy these great meetings.
