COMMERCE — Billy H. Prothro, 63, of Commerce died Nov. 20, 2006. Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home chapel with Bishop Philip Sanders and Brother Benny Chaffin officiating. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery.

Son of Hugh and Erna McKinney Prothro, he was born Aug. 29, 1943, in Natchitoches, La. He married Wanda L. Skaggs on June 15, 1972, in Chehalis, Wash. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Private First Class. He received the Marksman award, Driving Award and Good Conduct Award. He also placed third in a state championship stock car race in Montana. Mr. Prothro was owner of a wrecker business. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his wife of Commerce; children Billy McKinney of McKinney, Dennis Kelley of Seattle, Wash., Jackie Prothro and Leah Carter of Commerce, and Tammie Wompler of Jacksboro; grandchildren Stephanie Faulks, J.J. Prothro, and Elizabeth Carter and Dustin Carter of Commerce, Jennifer Brown and Tiffany Brown of Jacksboro, and Corey Kelley, Amanda Kennemer, and Olivia Kelley of Seattle, Wash.; six brothers, David Causey, Mickie McKinney, Dennis McKinney, Doug Prothro, Carl Prothro and Kurt Prothro; and one sister, Jennifer Prothro. He was preceded in death by a son, James Prothro in 2005, and by his parents. Pallbearers will be Chuck Whitlock, Cody Whitlock, Henry Wright, Doug Nichols, Jason Russell, Lloyd Coker and J.J. Prothro. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry White, Tracy Nichols and Randy Stewart.
