Billy Ray Pitts, 60, of Campbell died the morning of Dec. 17, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Bill Benner, Rev. Joel Arnold and Chester Lee will officiate. Burial is in Caney Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born Oct. 17, 1946, in Greenville, he was the son of G.W. “Baldy” and Willie Carmen Lee Pitts. He married Carolyn Drake on Dec. 23, 1965, in Greenville.

Mr. Pitts served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a dirt man and a cowboy.

Mr. Pitts was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of Campbell; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Cynthia Pitts of Greenville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Jacob Blanchard and Julie and Clent Goldston, all of Greenville; his mother of Campbell; a sister, JoAnn Jones of Greenville; brother-in-law and wife Gary and Gail Drake of Highland Village; grandchildren Whitney Goldston, Kiley Goldston, Jolie Goldston, Jace Kilmer and Jackson Pitts, all of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

His father preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2006.

Pallbearers are Matt Kilgore, Lance Banks, Andy Kilgore, Chad Marshall, Cole Fuller and Steve Angell. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Larry Shaw, Bill Jordan, Curtis Fuller, Don Zachary, Jack Wall, Jay Lynn Gore, Mike Heine, Jackson Kilgore, Mack Poole and Bob Greaves.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to the Caney Cemetery Association.
