Charles Rayburn Ross, Sr.

Leonard--Funeral services for Charles Rayburn Ross, Sr., 85, of Houston, formerly of Kingston, are scheduled at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the Kingston Methodist Church. Burial will be at McWright Cemetery.

Mr. Ross died on July 22, 2006, in California.

Born on February 20, 1921, in Kingston, he was the son of William Sanderson Ross and Margaret Loura Cole Ross. Charles was reared on a farm in Kingston where his father also served as the Postmaster and operated a general store an pharmacy. His mother was a school teacher. He was graduated from Celeste High School in 1939 and attended Texas A&M University-Commerce. Mr. Ross moved to Houston and obtained work in the roof construction field. For many years, he was associated with the Universal Roofing Company, which later became Atlas Universal Corporation. He was president of the Houston Roofing Association and a longtime member of the Houston Rotary Club. He was also a member of Houston's First United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities for thirty-five years.

He was a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed. Surviving are a son, Douglas Ross; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A niece Carol Ross Lipsey of Celeste also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Ross, Bill Ross, and Ralph Ross; his baby sister, Marguerite; a son, Charles Ross, Jr.; and his beloved wife Joyce Ross.

Memorial donations are requested to the National Parkinson Foundation.

Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
