Douglas Ray McKinney

Memorial services for Douglas Ray McKinney, 84, of Lufkin will be held Friday, January 13, 2006, at 2:00 PM. in the Pinecrest Retirement Community Chapel with the Reverend Carol Turner officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2006, at 2:00 PM in the Read Hill Cemetery in New Boston with the Reverend Jeff Hastings officiating. Mr. McKinney was born May 11, 1921 in Greenville, Texas, to the late William Lee McKinney and Zora Florence Wharton McKinney, and died Sunday, January 8, 2006, in a local hospital.

A former resident of Groves, Texas, Mr. McKinney had resided in Lufkin for the past fourteen years. He served in the US Army during World War II, and was an engineer for Texaco. Mr. McKinney was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin.

Survivors include his niece, Carolyn Johnson of Houston; and nephew, Arvid Anderson of Wilmington, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Louise McKinney; son, Charles Weldon McKinney; and niece, Patricia Anderson.

His mother Zora Florence Wharton was the daughter of George Washington Wharton and Nancy Clymer Wharton. They lived around the Lane-Pike area of Hunt County before moving to Leonard, Fannin Co., TX.
