WOLFE CITY — Elmer Ray Peden, 73, of Commerce died March 12, 2007, at his home following a battle with cancer for 10 long, hard years. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Methodist Church in Commerce with Rev. Lisa Wolcott and Rev. Dana Compton officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery, Commerce.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

The son of James E. and Marie Peavy Peden, he was born June 24, 1933, in Dallas. On Nov. 1, 1968, he married Alta Fay Humphries in Grand Prairie.

Mr. Peden served in the Korean War. He was an HVAC service technician for 40-plus years and was a master electrician. Mr. Peden was a member of Commerce Masonic Lodge #439, I.O.O.F. #234 and American Legion Texas No. 1. He was a Baptist.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Karen and husband Danny Dodson of Edgewood and Kerri and husband John Miles of Commerce; four grandchildren, Angelique and husband Arnie Nelms of Kaufman, Destiny and Mitch Shumate of Emory and Kody Miles and Mariah Miles of Commerce; four great-grandchildren, Collin Dodson, Skylar Shumate, Logan Nelms and Dylan Shumate; one sister, Shirley Peden of Arlington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends..

His parents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are Charles Humphries, Tommy Humphries, Lee Padgett, John Miles, Brad Rex and Jayson Campbell.

R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City is in charge of arrangements.
