Essie Lee Mapps, 70, of Greenville died March 30, 2007. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel AME Church with Rev. Dr. R. Charles Williams officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

Born June 5, 1936, in Greenville, she was the daughter of Raymond L. and Rose Anna Thomas Hoskins. She was married to Mentrail Mapps on June 27, 1957, in Greenville.

Mrs. Mapps was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel AME Church.

Surviving are five sons, Eric Mapps (Elaine) of Grand Prairie, J. Mapps of Commerce, and Mentrail Mapps Jr. (Anita), Bryan Mapps and Ray Mapps, all of Greenville; three daughters, LaWanda Runnels (Anthony), Karen Mapps and Debbie Smith, all of Greenville; two brothers, Thurman Hoskins (Geraldine) and Fonzell Hoskins, both of Greenville; a sister, Ruby Hammond of Greenville; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Her father, a son, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 9;30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.
