Ethel Alene Isham Thompson, 91, of Commerce, formerly of Greenville, died the afternoon of Nov. 6, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel in Greenville with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial follows in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 6, 1915, in Hopkins County, she was the daughter of Oscar Allen and Edna McGinnis Ray. She was married to Robert Alexander Isham on Sept. 18, 1937, in Greenville; he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2000. On Dec. 14, 2002, she was married to O.R. “Bill” Thompson.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and caregiver who loved people, cooking and sewing. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of Weatherford; a daughter and son-in-law, Ethel Marie and Ray Virgin of Campbell; daughter-in-law Belva Ann Isham of Campbell; a brother, J.K. Ray; a sister, Ruby Stuckey; grandchildren James Ray “Jim” Virgin and wife Cindy, Patsy Sheffield, Karen Tinney, Mary Oellermann and husband Bill, Gary Virgin of Florida and Mel Virgin of Maine; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert L. Isham; brothers Travis Ray, O.A. Ray, Loyd Ray and Lonnie Ray; sisters Maudell Isham-Dial, Eva Williams and Wynona Bloyed; and grandsons Glenn Virgin and Mark Tinney.

Pallbearers are Jim Virgin, Lester Chapman, Jimmie Williams, Jimmie Swafford, Curtis Bloyed and William Ray.
