George W. Smith

Leonard--George Wesley Smith, 90, Grand Prairie, died in a Crosbyton rest home Tuesday. He had been a patient there for the past nine months.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM, January 25, 1967, in the First Baptist Church of Leonard, with the Rev. Earnest Duncan, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, Grand Prairie, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Ed Russell, pastor. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born on January 5, 1877, in Millport, Alabama, the son of the late W. W. Smith and Sarah Beasley Smith. He was married to Pearl Mayes in 1920 in Leonard. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1966. They had lived in the Hickory Creek community, east of Leonard and Celeste, for many years before moving to Grand Prairie.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.

Survivors include three sons, Clyde Smith, Roswell, New Mexico; Joe B. Smith, Paramount, California; Robert Smith, Arlington; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Waldrop and Mrs. Ardella Justus, both of Crosbyton; one brother, Jack Smith, Columbus, Mississippi; one sister, Mrs. B. F. Thomas, Summerville, Georgia; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ray Perkins, Homer Bench, Bruce Young, Roy Butler, Sim F. Owens, and Robert Mayes.
