John Sullivan, 85, Pioneer Farmer of County, Expires
Greenville Evening Banner – March 14, 1939 – John Sullivan, 85, pioneer Hunt county farmer-stockman and a life long resident of this section, died this morning in Terrell where he was being treated. Death climaxed an illness of five weeks’ duration.
Final rites will be observed at the Sullivan cemetery where interment will occur at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Services will be conducted by Rev. Fred Moore of Campbell.
Pallbearers will be: Benton Wallace, Marvin Chaffin, Robert Weatherly, Charles Akers, Oscan Hamilton and Ides Green.
Mr. Sullivan was born on July 25, 1853 in the Sullivan community 10 miles southeast of Greenville, which was named for members of his family. He resided there and was engaged in farming and stock raising until about ten years ago when he retired and moved to Greenville and had resided here since.
One of the best known and most progressive farmers and stockmen in this section of the state, Mr. Sullivan had hundreds of friends who admired him for his numerous splendid traits. He was a leading citizen in his community and had aided greatly in the progress of the county.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Earle and a son, Tom Sullivan, both of Hunt County, a brother, William Sullivan of Campbell and a sister Mrs. Emma Jones of Haskell, Tx.
