Lucy Lanier Lacks

Mrs. Lucy Lacks, 89, one of the most beloved citizens of Celeste, died at her home at 3:55 Friday morning, April 23, 1954, following several weeks illness.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, April 24, 1954, at 3:00 PM at the Celeste Baptist Church. The pastor, the Rev. Earl Allen, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. R. F. Ratliff of Greenville. Burial was in the Mount Carmel Cemetery near Celeste.

Pallbearers were Lem Warren, Lum Compton, Ellis Sumrow, Walter Connatser, Nolan Jones, and Guy Glasscoe of Greenville.

Arrangements were in charge of James-Coker-Peters Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lacks who was born on April 15, 1865, in Wilson County, Tennessee, was the daughter of A. G. Lanier and Nancy Hayes Lanier. She was married in February 1881 to Timothy Lacks and they came to Texas in 1904. They had lived in and around Celeste since that time.

She was a devoted mother, a kindly neighbor, a sincere Christian, and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Miss Ona Lacks and Miss Ecce Lacks of Celeste and Mrs. N. C. Wooten of Greenville; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including W. B. Lanier and Roy Lanier of Celeste.

Her husband and two children preceded her in death.
