Gladys Frances Mercer Linton

CELESTE — Gladys Frances Linton, 98, of Celeste died June 13, 2008, at the Briarcliff Health Center in Greenville. Funeral services are at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 16, 2008, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Layman and the Rev. Jim Sherwin officiating. Burial is in the Celeste Cemetery. The daughter of Charles Mercer and Hattie Mercer, she was born April 15, 1910, in Mangrum, Oklahoma. She was married to Lonnie Earl Linton on October 22, 1927, in Celeste. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Celeste, the Celeste Coffee Club, the Celeste Thursday Club and the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She was preceded in death by her husband on December 12, 1979; three sisters Sue Wren, Lorene Wallace, and Dollie Ingram; one brother Billy Mercer; one half-sister Dean Borders and one half-brother Wesley Chaney. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Frances Reynolds and Fred Reynolds of Celeste; and a sister Nina Jensen of Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, June 15, 2008, at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard. Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home of Leonard is in charge of arrangements.
