Lonnie Ray, 89, of Greenville died the evening of Aug. 6, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Park Street Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Johnny Hailes will officiate. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Born July 24, 1917, in Sulphur Springs, he was the son of Oscar Allen and Edna McGinnis Ray. He married Stella Mae Wooten in Greenville in 1933; she preceded him in death. On Jan. 16, 1982, he married Mary Sue Young in Greenville. Mr. Ray worked for Robin Hood Flour Mill for many years, was an iron worker for 15 years and was also a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of Greenville; a son, William Ray of Fairview; daughter Lavern Brown of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Dot Hogge of Greenville; a brother, J.K. Ray of Greenville; two sisters, Ellian Isham and Ruby Stuckey, both of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; a son, Eugene Ray; three brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, 2205 Park Street, Greenville 75401. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
